Position: CIVIL/STRUCTURAL ENGINEER - POWER SYSTEMS ENG IV - CA

Overview

CLP Engineering is an engineering firm focused on utility operations experience. Through City Light & Power, Inc. (CLP), we support large utility contracts nationwide, with involvement across substations and microgrid networks.

Position Description

The Civil/Structural Engineer-Power Systems Eng IV will design, develop, and oversee the civil/structural portions of power systems infrastructure projects, including substations, transmission lines, and distribution systems.

Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed project plans, designs, and cost estimates for power systems site development projects, including substations, transmission lines, and distribution systems.
  • Analyze project requirements and create technical specifications, calculations, and drawings in compliance with codes and standards.
  • Provide recommendations to improve project feasibility, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Prepare all civil and structural designs for various projects.
  • Coordinate with other departments, project teams, contractors, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and industry standards.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources, ensuring timely completion within budget and on schedule.
  • Conduct site visits, inspections, and quality control checks to ensure designs meet requirements and that documentation and reports are up-to-date.
  • Collaborate with engineers, planners, and stakeholders to identify and mitigate project risks.
  • Mentor junior engineers and review their work products.
  • Stay up-to-date with technologies, materials, and methods in the power systems field and recommend improvements.

Skills | Knowledge | Experience
  • Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering (required).
  • Eight plus (8+) years of civil engineering experience focused on power systems site development (required).
  • Strong technical, project management, and regulatory compliance knowledge for safe and reliable power systems operation.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and related design software.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations and industry standards for power systems infrastructure design, construction, and maintenance.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to mitigate project risks.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with stakeholders, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license (required); CA PE License (preferred).
Supervisory Responsibility
  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
Work Authorization | Security Clearance
  • US citizen required due to federal government work.
  • Ability to obtain Military Base Access is required.
  • Valid driver's license with a record meeting CLP Fleet Policy.
Travel
  • Travel between job sites with 20-30% overnight travel expected.
Compensation | Benefits
  • Medical, dental, and life insurance; 401k with company contribution; paid time off and holidays.
  • Salary range: $116,000 - $144,000 annually, plus eligibility for Short Term Incentive Plan.
  • We reserve the right to pay more or less than the posted salary range based on factors unrelated to sex.
