Registered Nurse to provide direct care to oncology patients at the Los Angeles Cancer Network (One Oncology affiliated medical practice).
Responsibilities- Administer chemotherapy, hydration and other medications under the direct supervision of a physician
- Perform assessments on patients
- Participate in activities to plan, measure, assess and improve the quality of patient care
- Demonstrate knowledge of ambulatory infusion pump use and maintenance
- Draw blood via port catheter or PICC line
- Educate patients and their families about chemotherapy side effects
- Encourage new chemotherapy patients and families to utilize See Your Chart Portal
- Schedule chemotherapy, hydration, injections and bone marrow in the EMR
- Follow company process for billing verification before administering medication
- Monitor Coumadin levels and provide patient education
- Complete patient documentation promptly
- Maintain a clean work environment at all times
- Verify patient allergies
- Maintain skills, knowledge and currency in administration of chemotherapy
- Attend meetings for continuing education to maintain nursing license currency
- Assist the Charge Nurse with daily operations
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Assess nursing needs of acute and chronically ill patients through technology methods
- Exceptional assessment, critical thinking, and customer service skills
- Maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses
- Seek out resources independently and work collaboratively
- Collaborate, set priorities, and organize work to meet deadlines, ensuring compliance with established processes, policies, and regulations
- Multitask efficiently
- Communicate clearly with patients, families, visitors, healthcare team, physicians, administrators, leadership and others
- Current California RN license
- Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification through ONS or must obtain within 12 months of hire
- Current CPR/BCLS certification
- Excellent IV skills
- Access port-a-caths and PICC lines
- Basic typing, keyboard and computer skills
- Great customer service skills
- Medical terminology – oncology/hematology specific
- Previous oncology/hematology experience preferred
Job Type: Full-time
Pay Range: $45.00 to $50.00 per hour.
