Schedule:
Full-Time
The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing direct nursing care to oncology and hematology patients in an outpatient infusion setting. This role supports patients throughout their treatment journey, delivering safe, high-quality care while promoting independence, symptom management, and overall well-being.
The RN collaborates closely with physicians and the healthcare team to ensure excellent patient outcomes and an exceptional patient experience.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and administer chemotherapy, biotherapy, hydration therapies, and other prescribed medications under physician supervision
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments and ongoing monitoring throughout treatment
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, medications, and chemotherapy-related side effects
- Operate and maintain ambulatory infusion pumps
- Access and manage port-a-caths, PICC lines, and other vascular access devices
- Draw blood specimens through central venous access devices
- Schedule chemotherapy treatments, hydration therapy, injections, and related services within the EMR system
- Verify billing authorization and medication approvals prior to administration
- Monitor anticoagulation therapy as appropriate and provide patient education
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and patient care evaluations
- Support patient engagement through electronic health record and patient portal utilization
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment
- Verify and document patient allergies prior to treatment
- Assist with daily clinic operations and support Charge Nurse activities when needed
- Maintain professional competency through continuing education and ongoing oncology training
- Active California Registered Nurse (RN) License
- Current BLS/CPR Certification
- Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certification through ONS, or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire
- Strong IV therapy and vascular access skills
- Experience accessing and managing port-a-caths and PICC lines
- Proficiency with basic computer applications and EMR systems
- Excellent customer service and patient communication skills
- Knowledge of oncology and hematology medical terminology
- Previous oncology and/or hematology nursing experience preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking abilities
- Ability to care for both acute and chronically ill patients
- Exceptional patient-focused approach
- Ability to remain calm and professional in emotionally challenging situations
- Strong organizational, prioritization, and multitasking skills
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team
- Proven ability to build positive relationships with patients, families, physicians, and colleagues
