DESCRIPTION

The City of Corona Community Services Department is excited to welcome applications for the position of Facility Specialist
, this is a key role in creating safe, efficient, and sustainable environments for the community. This role will be at the heart of keeping our public buildings in top condition—from handling routine maintenance to ensuring safety compliance, you ll make sure that our employees, residents, and visitors are in the best possible environment.

Knowledge

  • Methods and practices HVAC systems.
  • Methods, practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the installation, repair, adjustment, and maintenance of buildings and structures.
  • Methods and practices of HVAC, pipe fitting and electrical work.
  • Operational characteristics and the proper maintenance of electrical systems of residential and commercial buildings and structures including heating and ventilation units.
  • Occupational hazards, safety precautions, and safe work practices including proper use and maintenance of power tools, vehicles, and equipment. Use and maintenance a wide variety of hand, power, and shop tools, as well as test equipment and other equipment related to the work.

Education & Experience

Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of a relevant apprenticeship program in at least one skilled trade is preferred: carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, or HVAC.

Experience:

  • Three (3) years of full-time journey-level experience in one or more of the following areas: carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, masonry, or HVAC.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Possession of a valid California Class C driver s license with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Certifications in one or more of the following specialized trades is preferred: electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry, or HVAC.

Skills & Abilities

  • Read and interpret plans, schematics, manuals, blueprints, and sketches and electrical wiring diagrams; prepare rough sketches and make rough estimates of work performed.
  • Competently and safely operate a variety of tools and equipment used in building maintenance and construction.
  • Set priorities, organize workflow and maintain organization of work and records; multi-task and be responsive to time-sensitive matters; understand and follow instructions.
  • Use tact, initiative, prudence, and independent judgment within general policy, procedural, and legal guidelines.

The selection process will consist of a review and evaluation of all applicants  qualifications. Those applicants deemed to possess the most desirable qualifications will be invited to participate in a possible virtual Hire Vue and oral interview. The top scoring candidates from the oral interview will be placed on an eligibility list from which the department may hire. The eligibility list established from this recruitment may also be used to fill the current and/or additional vacancies throughout the City.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a reference / background check including livescan and pass a pre-employment medical examination (which will include a drug/alcohol screening).
