The City of Coronado is Accepting Applications for the Position of Department Administrative Coordinator (Administrative Services Division)

Coronado is a unique, well-maintained, and financially stable small town with an engaged community and a strong sense of civic pride. Incorporated on December 11, 1890, Coronado is a general law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. The Mayor and four Council members serve staggered four-year terms. The City employs approximately 260 full-time staff members and maintains a seasonal and temporary workforce that fluctuates between 200 and 300 throughout the year.

As a full-service municipality, the City supports nine departments:
City Manager, Administrative Services, City Clerk, Community Development, Fire Services and Beach Lifeguards, Golf and Recreation Services, Library Services, Police Services, and Public Services and Engineering.

The Department:

The Department of Administrative Services is responsible for the divisions of Finance, Human Resources, and Information Technology. The employees in the department support and reinforce City-wide operations with the goal of developing its most valuable resources - its people. This goal is jointly accomplished through the preservation of the City's financial resources; the commitment to attract and retain a skilled workforce;

and the effective management of the City's information systems.

The Administrative Services Department’s Administrative Coordinator is responsible for providing support to the Director of Administrative Services, Finance division, Human Resources division, and Information Technology division. Key duties include managing Human Resources records and data, processing verifications of employment, assisting with new-hire onboarding, coordinating department payroll, and delivering general administrative support. The position also serves as the primary point of contact for the department by overseeing the front counter and phone operations.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, customer service-oriented professional with strong interpersonal and communication skills. Experience in office administration, particularly in Human Resources or Finance, is highly desirable. The successful individual will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, and a commitment to providing high-quality customer service. Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, initiative, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team-focused department are essential.

Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience:

At least four (4) years of experience performing administrative-level duties OR two (2) years of experience at or equivalent to the level of Office Specialist or Department Administrative Assistant in the City of Coronado, from which the incumbent has acquired the knowledge, skills and abilities listed below.

Education/Training:

Completion of college-level coursework in business office technology, business administration, or a related field.
