Job Description Summary
The Senior Accountant – Accounting & Financial Reporting position performs governmental accounting functions in support of the College’s financial reporting, compliance and internal control activities. This position is responsible for performing general ledger accounting functions, preparing and reviewing account reconciliations, supporting financial reporting activities, coordinating audit preparation and ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state and local regulations.
The Senior Accountant works independently with a high level of judgement while providing guidance and technical support to Office of Finance team. The Senior Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity and timeliness of the College’sfinancial records and reports.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or closely related field.
Five (5) years of accounting experience.
Experience with general ledger accounting, preparing financial statements and audit schedules.
Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles ( GAAP ) and governmental accounting experience.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Knowledge of governmental accounting and financial reporting.
Ability to analyze complex accounting issues and interpret accounting standards, policies and procedures.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
Attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in governmental or higher education accounting environment.
Experience with Annual Comprehensive Financial Report ( ACFR ) preparation, GFOA award submissions, and financial reporting.
CPA or CPA
-eligible.
Experience using ERP or financial management systems (e.g., Ellucian Colleague or similar).
