Salary and levelLevel I: $1,723 - $2,103, monthly approximate
Level II: $2,113 - $2,580, monthly approximate
Job OverviewUnder supervision to do varied clerical tasks of average difficulty; and to do related work as required.
At the I LevelThis is the entry level or trainee level classification in the Court Services Assistant series. Positions in this class normally involve the performance of closely supervised routine repetitive tasks according to established procedures. While a variety of tasks may be assigned, each step usually follows a pattern, which has been established and explained. Changes in procedure are fully explained and in the event exceptions arise, the employee is expected to ask for directions.
Those who successfully complete training and meet the minimum requirements for Court Services Assistant II may be promoted without further examination. Promotions to Court Services Assistant II are considered on a merit basis subject to recommendation by the employees department head and approval by the Director of Personnel.
This class is distinguished from Court Services Assistant I by duties requiring a working knowledge of specialized subject matter. Although operations adhere to established procedures, independent judgment and initiative are important aspects; new and unusual situations may be referred to the supervisor. A good understanding of the rules, regulations, and procedures governing departmental activities is required.
Essential FunctionsFiles materials in alphabetical, numerical and chronological order; locates files; scans files for information; reviews forms for completeness and accuracy; enters corrections and other information onto forms, cards, and documents; keeps numerical information in log form; makes arithmetic calculations; sorts and distributes mail and other materials; prepares new files; deletes obsolete materials from files; answers the telephone routing calls to the proper person;
greets and directs the public; answers general and detailed questions concerning department procedures; makes calls to give or obtain information; operates various office machines; operates a cash register and makes change; assists in the training of employees; prepares reports from logged information.
At the I Level: Any combination of training and experience that provides the following knowledge and abilities:
Knowledge of alphabetical and numerical sequences; proper telephone procedures; proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. Ability to read English; work under pressure; follow both oral and written instructions; read and verify information; verbally communicate effectively in English; work independently; exercise judgment and discretion; communicate in written form; handle cash and make change; read and interpret charts, graphs and tables; operate office machines;
perform simple arithmetical calculations.
At the II Level: One (1) year of experience performing clerical work. Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures; departmental organization; the basis structure of County organization; alphabetical and numerical sequences; proper telephone procedures; proper grammar, spelling and punctuation. Ability to work accurately; read English; work under pressure; follow oral and written instructions; read and verify information; communicate effectively verbally in English;
work independently; exercise judgment and discretion; communicate in written form; handle cash and make change; read and interpret charts, graphs, and tables; operate office machines; perform arithmetical calculations.
