Senior Estimator
OverviewThe Senior Estimator is responsible for preparing and completing bid/submittal documents and cost estimates for electrical construction projects. As lead estimator, you work with other estimators, suppliers, and customers to complete estimates and guide the estimation team.
Responsibilities- Prepare estimates from quantity take-off and produce printable estimate files.
- Identify project elements that can make a competitive estimate.
- Review proposal specifications, drawings, and attend pre‑bid meetings to determine scope of work.
- Evaluate areas for potential value‑engineering cost savings.
- Provide leadership to personnel preparing discipline sub‑estimates.
- Maintain all working documents and data that support estimate figures.
- Develop labor productivity and installation unit costs based on projected site conditions and historical data.
- Prepare detailed listings of material and equipment items and obtain quotes.
- Identify qualified suppliers/subcontractors, solicit quotes, and review them for completeness and conformance.
- Ensure timely completion of all client‑required documents.
- Draft scope/proposal letters for bid and negotiated projects.
- Before issuing the formal bid package, provide a detailed review of scope, technical requirements, and pricing to the Chief Estimator.
- After a successful bid, meet with Project Management to explain scope, attention areas, and transition details.
- Maintain files of all working documents and update the Rosendin approved estimating program.
- Read and interpret blueprints and engineering design drawings.
- Perform arithmetic calculations required for estimating.
- Estimate all types of projects and supervise group work effort.
- Mentor and develop junior estimators.
- Identify and meet customers' needs, expectations, and requirements.
- Proficient in using a computer and Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.).
- Prioritize and manage multiple tasks and change priorities as necessary.
- Work under pressure and adapt to changing requirements with a positive attitude.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Self‑motivated, proactive, and an effective team player.
- Interact effectively and professionally with all levels of employees, vendors, clients, and others.
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 4 years of estimating or relevant experience in closing construction estimates.
- Experience with Accubid estimating software, Livecount Cloud, and Bluebeam software preferred.
- Experience with CAD or 3D software preferred.
- Combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
- Up to 10% travel.
- General environment includes sitting, standing, walking, typing, carrying, and occasional lifting up to 30 lbs.
- Mostly indoors with fluorescent lighting and air conditioning.
- Noise level typically low to medium; can be louder on job sites.
