Summary

The VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System is seeking Supervisory Dentist for the South Enterprise VA Clinic in Corpus Christi - TX. The Supervisor serves as a practicing dentist performing a full range of general dental procedures for commonly encountered dental diseases - conditions - and restorative needs.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • A degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery or dental medicine resulting from a course of education in dentistry
  • The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed
  • Approved schools are (1) United States and Canadian schools of dentistry listed by the Commission on Dental Accreditation(CODA) - in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed.(2) Schools (including foreign schools) accepted by the licensing body of a State
    - Territory - or Commonwealth (i.e.

    - Puerto Rico) - or the District of Columbia as qualifying for full and unrestricted licensure provided the licensure requirements include a written examination measuring science achievement and a performance examination measuring clinical competence certification - and must obtain a copy of the ECFMG certificate - if claimed by the applicant
  • ~AND~ Completed - or you are currently completing - a residency program in general practice or specialty - or comparable experience as a dentist actively involved in treating medically compromised patients
  • ~AND~ Currently hold - or will hold - a current - full and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State
    - Territory - or Commonwealth of the United States - or in the District of Columbia
  • Note:

    Dentists must maintain current registration in the State of licensure if this is a requirement for continuing active - current licensure
  • Preferred Experience:

    Demonstrated clinical expertise in comprehensive dental care - including treatment planning - diagnosis - and management of complex cases within an outpatient or hospital based setting
  • Prior leadership or supervisory experience directing dental staff - overseeing clinical operations - mentoring providers - and ensuring adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards
  • Experience working within interdisciplinary healthcare teams - collaborating with medical - surgical - nursing and ancillary services to support integrated Veteran centered care
  • Proven ability to ensure compliance with VHA policies - infection control standards - patient safety requirements - documentation expectations - and quality improvement initiatives
  • Participation in or leadership of performance improvement - process redesign - or clinical program development - demonstrating the ability to enhance patient outcomes - efficiency - or clinic productivity

Duties
  • The Supervisory Dentist is knowledgeable in all disciplines of general dentistry and performs duties within their approved scope of practice as established through the credentialing and privileging process
  • Clinical Duties:
    Patient Care Conducts oral and radiographic examinations
  • Administer local anesthesia
  • Diagnoses pathological and irregular oral conditions
  • Performs restorative dentistry - including routine and complex restorations
  • Performs routine endodontic procedures
  • Conducts prosthodontic procedures including complete dentures - partial dentures - crowns - and fixed bridges
  • Performs simples and complex extractions - alveoloplasty - and routine surgical procedures
  • Provides periodontal evaluation and non-surgical periodontal therapy
  • Provides orthodontic evaluation and referrals when indicated
  • Infection Control and Sterilization:
    Demonstrates Proper infection control procedures
  • Ensures assigned personnel comply with all infection control standards
  • Completes mandatory annual infection control training
  • Information Management:
    Maintains patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations
