PURPOSE
The Athletic Academic Coordinator is responsible for working with stakeholders regarding academic advisement, student success activities, and overseeing academic progress per University, Southland Conference, and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules. This position also provides academic counsel to student‑athletes regarding schedule development, registration assistance, major exploration, learning issues, NCAA continuing eligibility, progress toward degree, graduation plans and mentoring for at‑risk students.
Oversees academic progress, athletic progress, and attendance reports and works with coaching staffs to develop semester success plans.
- Advises current and prospective student‑athletes concerning their academic requirements.
- Provides mentoring for students.
- Oversees sports as assigned by the Director of Athletic Academic Services.
- Coordinates with departments on efforts related to student success.
- Coordinates with the Office of Student Success to implement tutoring, learning skills labs, etc., to ensure student‑athlete academic success.
- Utilizes the Office of Student Success to develop strategies to assist at‑risk student‑athletes.
- Works with University stakeholders regarding academic advisement‑related activities.
- Oversees academic progress, athletic progress, and attendance reports.
- Develop, coordinate, and maintain athletic academic success initiatives with institutional programs.
- Assist with admission process and documentation of in‑state, out‑of‑state and international students.
- Work with the compliance office to determine initial and continuing academic eligibility for student‑athletes.
- Coordinates, attends, and presents at on‑campus recruiting events by talking with prospective student‑athletes, parents, and/or guardians about academic programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in an applicable field.
- Three (3) years of experience in DI or DII academic setting or related experience.
- Additional education may be considered as a substitution for the minimum requirements.
- Master’s degree in applicable field and one (1) year of experience in DI or DII academic setting or related experience.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work outside normal business hours and travel as needed.
- Master’s degree in higher education, sport administration, management, psychology, or closely related field.
- Knowledge/experience in APR, graduation rates and NCAA academic eligibility requirements.
- Experience with ARMS, Navigate, Banner, and NCAA compliance assistance.
- Experience in college athletics at the NCAA DI level, working with Basketball student athletes, and experience with life skills programming.
