Job Description Summary

This is a full-time tenure-track faculty position. Teach courses in the Sound Recording Technology degrees. Areas of instructional focus include acoustic sound, studio electronics, microphones, cables and connections, mixing console set up and signal flow, engineer-based aural training, in depth decibels, balance and mixing techniques, stereo microphone arrays, digital audio theory, devices and issues, signal processing devices and techniques (analog / plugin), midi, midi arranging, audio and midi editing, automation, foley, sound effects, live sound, the interconnection and usage of the components in a sound reinforcement system, power and voltage issues, enclosures, live sound mixing FOH and monitors, copyright laws, the six rights and their exploitation, publishing, PROs, licensing and contracts, commercial harmonic progressions, transcription of music, modes, forms, music notation.

Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Ability to plan course instruction based upon approved syllabus/outline provided to insure course content and objectives are met.
  • Demonstrate expertise knowledge, and abilities in the recording and production of all genres of music accompanied by a knowledge of classical repertoire.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate various learning styles of students.
  • Successful experience utilizing instructional technologies, including DAWs, live sound consoles and drive racks, electronic testing equipment, video editing software, plugins, music notation, and other audio specific programs as appropriate to SRT instruction.
  • Demonstrate expertise in modern studio recording, live sound reinforcement, sound design for visual media, video editing and studio maintenance.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the discipline.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Two (2) or more years of successful college teaching experience is preferred.
  • Ability to teach and communicate with students of varied multicultural backgrounds.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and methods which enhance student success.
  • Experience teaching college level online courses and/or documented successful training in a college online learning management system (e.g. Blackboard, Canvas).
  • Record of accomplishment as a recording engineer at the professional level.
  • Demonstrated communication and organizational skills, and an ability to work collaboratively.
