Description OverviewUnder supervision of the Managing Librarian and/or shift supervisor (Library Assistant), checks in library materials returned at circulation desk, book drop, and transfer items between locations. Loads book carts from sorting shelves and returns them to public access shelves. Checks shelved materials for order and proper location and re-shelves if necessary. Assists at the public service desk with patron checkouts, telephone assistance, renewals, and general library assistance when necessary.
Responsibilities- Checks in library materials returned at circulation desk and outside book drop.
- Sorts and sanitizes materials, prepares materials for return to shelves in alphabetical or numerical order, loads book carts, and shelves all types and formats of library materials.
- Checks shelved material for order and proper location daily; re-shelves if necessary. Performs independently from shelving materials.
- Prepares building for business before opening by cleaning computers and unlocking internal doors.
- Collects library materials before closing, records gate count, and helps secure building.
- Scans and prepares library materials for re-shelving the following day.
- Arranges and straightens furniture at closing.
- Assists Library Assistant at the public service desk and conducts inventory control occasionally.
- May be asked to perform other duties as assigned.
- Non-Exempt – Part-Time.
- Flexible schedule: work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement.
- In the event of an emergency, employees are required to work to provide for the safety and well-being of the public, including the delivery and restoration of vital services.
