Grant-Funded Tex Prep Instructor Pool

Program Overview

The Texas Pre‑freshman Engineering Program (TexPREP) identifies middle and high school students with an interest in engineering, science, technology, and mathematics‑related areas and strengthens their potential for careers in these fields. TexPREP is a collaborative effort of colleges and universities located throughout Texas that encourages students to begin preparing early for scientific and engineering career paths in school.

TXPREP INSTRUCTOR instructs TexPREP students at the Del Mar College Oso Creek Campus and on weekly field trips during the seven‑week program which runs from June 01, 2026 to July 17, 2026. Course subjects include:
Introduction to Engineering, Logic, Introduction to Physics, Problem Solving, Technical Writing, and Statistics.

• Bachelor’s degree in a field related to one of the following subject areas:
  Mathematics, Science, Technology, Engineering, or English.

• Commitment and interest in assisting middle and high school students in their academic and personal growth.
• Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), the Windows environment, and internet research skills.
• Ability to actively engage and be involved with children on a daily basis.
• Ability to use good judgment when responding to emergency situations.
• Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with students, staff, parents, and the public.
• Ability to respond professionally and appropriately when dealing with children who may have special needs.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

• Experience teaching STEM‑related courses, fundamental engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science, coding, and technical writing.
• Experience providing instruction to adolescents from 8th through 11th grade.
• Experience integrating project‑based learning combined with a learner/student‑centered classroom environment.
• Former TexPREP employees.
