The purpose of this position is to tutor students, enhance their mathematics knowledge and help them develop the skills necessary to succeed in a variety of math courses. Tutors will utilize a collaborative and interactive process to enable and encourage students to become a more effective and independent learner. Work/schedule hours vary, however may be within any time that the Math Learning Center is open.
Minimum Qualifications- Level I: 12 college credit hours, “B” average for Math classes
- Level II: 60 college credit hours, “B” average for Math classes
- Level III:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mathematics or a Math-related field OR Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 21 college credit hours in Mathematics
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong mathematical skills and logical reasoning.
- Ability to effectively articulate mathematical concepts. Capable of working with students from different cultural backgrounds as well as various academic levels and needs.
- Prior tutoring experience.
- Completion of Calculus I and II with high standing.
- Knowledge of learning management systems (preferably Canvas).
- Proficient with a variety of calculators and math software such as My Math Lab .
- Ability to work independently and to take initiative in fulfilling responsibilities.
- Help and guide students with math related problems.
- Conduct individual and small group tutorials.
- Greet and assist students with signing in.
- Manage and create resources.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Maintain an organized and neat facility.
- Participate in on-going training.
- Market the Math Learning Center.
- Mentor new tutors.
- Support the Assistant Instructors with administrative tasks, such as opening and closing, and special projects.
