TERM INSTRUCTOR - GOVERNMENT/POLITICAL SCIENCES POOL
The purpose of this position is to teach assigned courses at a variety of times and locations in response to institutional need. Courses may include online courses and/or dual-credit/early college classes. This temporary term instructor position may lead to an instructor or professor role in the near future.
Responsibilities- Teach five courses per semester, including online or dual‑credit/early college classes.
- Teach assigned courses at various times and locations as needed.
- Provide a written and accessible syllabus that follows the Course Syllabus Guidelines and clearly outlines content, goals, requirements, expectations, evaluation methods, and schedule.
- Maintain a classroom environment that promotes teaching and learning.
- Hold at least one hour of office hours daily, and be available for student conferences.
- Evaluate students to measure progress toward course outcomes, review and recommend learning materials, and assist in academic advising of declared majors.
- Continuously improve instruction quality, develop teaching methods, revise assessments, and participate in the self‑evaluation process.
- Participate in institutional activities such as committees, meetings, convocation and graduation ceremonies, accreditation activities, and the college planning process.
- Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community; assist with marketing, recruiting, and accept special assignments when required.
- Plan instruction based on an approved syllabus or outline to ensure course content and objectives are met.
- Utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles of students.
- Have successful college teaching experience.
- Have experience utilizing instructional technologies, including computers, internet resources, and other appropriate media in instruction.
- Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the discipline.
- Demonstrate skill, knowledge, and abilities in the teaching discipline.
- Ability to teach and communicate with students of varied multicultural backgrounds.
- Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and methods that enhance student success.
- Knowledge of learning colleges and/or learning communities.
- Experience teaching college‑level online courses and/or documented success in a college online learning management system such as Blackboard or Canvas.
