Overview

St. John Paul Academy is seeking a qualified Teacher - Generalist for grades 6 through 8 with an emphasis in Math. The primary responsibility is to instruct students to develop skills and abilities to excel in all subject areas taught. Contribute to the Catholic education program as a whole and to the growth of students academically and spiritually.

Ministerial Character

The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (the Diocese). He employs suitable collaborators—clerics, religious, and lay people—and shares with them the apostolic mission. Each position in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps extend the Bishop’s ministry in the performance of his mission and thereby engages in ministry for the church.

Responsibilities

  • As an integral part of ministry for the Church, support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in professional and personal life.
  • Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church.
  • Continuously grow in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet students’ needs and improve academic growth.
  • Provide classroom management and instruct students to meet their needs at their levels to foster growth.
  • Collaborate with other school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives for overall educational development.
  • Establish criteria for students to understand classroom expectations; model and praise students who meet or exceed them.
  • Maintain confidentiality of individual student information and promote emotional and academic growth.
  • Work with peer teachers to attain program growth and guidance.
  • Communicate student expectations clearly to students and parents.
  • Monitor and support student academic growth.
Mental/Physical Demands
  • Ability to carry, pull, push, lift, or move objects 10 pounds or more.
  • Regular bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, turning, reaching, climbing, and balancing.
  • Ability to maintain composure under duress.
  • Ability to work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); frequent exposure to noise; frequent district wide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; moderate exposure to vehicle fumes and work around moving vehicles.

  • Demonstrates a professional attitude as a member of the diocesan staff.
  • Maintains confidentiality in matters of the assigned department and the diocese.
  • Serves as a representative of the diocese displaying courtesy, tact, positivity, and discretion in all interactions with colleagues and the community served.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • College coursework in Math (24) and Education (12) or Teaching Certificate in those areas.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the subject matter.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with diocesan policies and procedures.
  • Valid Texas driver’s license.
Special Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of teaching techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to instruct at high levels with rigor.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Position Information
  • Full-time, contract position.
  • Exempt position.

  • Must successfully complete pre-employment screening including criminal history background check, motor vehicle record review (MVR), and drug screening.
  • Certification in Safe Environment training provided by the Office for Safe Environment and Child & Family Resources is required.
  • Must adhere to all Diocesan policies and procedures.
