EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's Degree in Theatre Arts
- Certificate by the state of Texas to teach in Theatre Arts.
- Preferred:
Master's Degree in Theatre Arts

- Knowledgeable of curriculum and instruction in their area of certification.

- Communicates effectively in oral and written form, with both students and adults.
- Has the ability to effectively embed available technology into daily lesson plans.

The Middle School Theatre Arts/Speech Sponsor/Teacher is under the direct supervision of the principal and under the guidance of the Curriculum Specialist for Art and Speech/Theatre. The Teacheris responsible for directing and coordinating the theatre arts/speech activities for the campus, participating in District-wide events, coaching academic competitions related to theatre arts/ speech, and assisting the Curriculum Specialist for Art and Speech/Theatre Arts in planning and conducting District-wide events.

Responsibilities:
Theatre Arts Sponsor:
- Directs the One-Act Play for the District One-Act Play event.
- Prepares students for competition in the District Middle School Speech Tournament.
- Travels with students, and supervises students at District-wide competitions.
- Directs at least three campus-based theatre arts/speech events a year: talent or variety show, school P TA program, school speech contest, Dessert Theatre, Dinner Theatre, Optimist Oratorical Contest, performances off-campus, campus One-Act Play, assemblies, and Children's Theatre/Reader's Theatre.
- Prepares a minimum of 30 students to compete in individual events in competition, and motivates students to perform in public.
- Maintains all records for Districtwide competitions/festivals, and complies with deadlines.
- Prepares an annual inventory of the theatre arts lighting and audio equipment, UIL Unit Set assigned to the theatre arts department.
- Attends all meetings held to plan Districtwide events for middle school students.
- Maintains accurate records of expenses and is responsible for paying all bills, including royalty fees.
- Maintains an accurate roster of academic competition results, and oversees accurate publication of competition results.
- Oversees publicity of competition results.
- Follows activities outlined in the attached Middle School Theatre/Arts Speech Director Schedule of Duties and Activities, and works with the principal to modify activities when appropriate.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the principal.
- Plans for successful student learning of daily objectives that include basic knowledge and skills, and central concepts of the discipline.
- Ensures students are engaged and successful in learning, critical thinking and problem solving.
- Utilizes multiple models of instruction, assessment and effective teaching practices.
- Utilizes State TEKS and District Curriculum to design engaging lessons which are challenging, high quality and appropriate for the level of instruction.
- Maintains current accurate records of daily attendance and textbooks issued.
- Able to effectively manage time and materials.
- Accepts related assignments as requested by principals.
- Instructs classes in the subject area(s) assigned.
- Is responsible for the use and care of available instructional materials.
- Maintains current records of student grades and progress.
- Accurately evaluates and assesses performance of students in subject/s taught.
- Confers regularly with parents on student progress.
- Fulfills related responsibilities, e.g., reporting grades, exams, field trips, and programs.
