Position SummaryThe Carpentry Instructor is responsible for providing classroom instruction, distance learning instruction, and practical shop experience to prepare students for employment in a variety of jobs in the field of Carpentry. The instructor will teach courses related to the core skills used by carpenters in residential and commercial settings, including safety, hand‑ and power‑tool use, site preparation, measurement and layout, footings and foundation, construction framing, and related topics.
Responsibilities include planning course instruction based on approved syllabi, using diverse teaching methods, incorporating instructional technology, evaluating student progress, maintaining a professional learning environment, and assisting with marketing, recruitment, and accreditation activities. The instructor may also accept special assignments, participate in meetings, and contribute to the College’s planning process and community outreach.
Job Duties- Teach NCCER Carpentry program courses.
- Develop NCCER Carpentry curriculum and course content.
- Assist in maintaining NCCER program compliance activities.
- Procure, maintain, inspect, and operate equipment and supplies necessary for program instruction.
- Associate’s degree in the discipline and four (4) years of industry‑related work experience, OR high‑school diploma/GED equivalent and eight (8) years of industry‑related work experience.
- Ability to plan course instruction based on approved syllabus/outline.
- Ability to utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles.
- Experience utilizing instructional technologies, including computers and internet resources.
- Ability to teach and communicate with students of varied multicultural backgrounds.
- Successful teaching or vocational training experience.
- Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies that enhance student success.
- Knowledge of a learning college and/or learning communities.
- Experience teaching college‑level online courses or documented success in a college online learning management system such as Blackboard or Canvas.
