Job Overview
Teach Art History and Art Appreciation courses face to face or online. Typical load per regular semester would be five lecture classes. The College seeks a full‑time, tenure‑track faculty member in Art History who shares the College's commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.
Responsibilities- Teach assigned Art History and Art Appreciation courses, including Art History I, Art History II, and Art History I Survey, face‑to‑face and online.
- Deliver five lecture courses per semester and develop curriculum, transfer‑level and electives, incorporating Open Educational Resources.
- Provide students with written, accessible syllabi that outline content, goals, requirements, evaluation methods, and schedule.
- Maintain a classroom environment that promotes teaching and learning; hold scheduled office hours (minimum one hour daily).
- Advise students, support student learning, and assist with academic advising of declared majors.
- Participate in student recruiting, fundraising, and community outreach initiatives.
- Lead the development, assessment, and analysis of student learning outcomes in Art History and Art Appreciation.
- Assist in program assessment, curriculum development, and accreditation activities, including NASAD self‑study and program review.
- Engage in committee work, departmental meetings, and cross‑departmental collaboration.
- Serve on college and department committees, attend regular meetings, and participate in institutional activities such as convocation and graduation ceremonies.
- Use instructional technologies (e.g., Canvas, Blackboard) and other media to enhance instruction.
- Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
- Continuously refine teaching methods to engage diverse learners and promote critical thinking.
- Maintain currency in discipline knowledge and educational technology.
- Commit to ongoing professional development and participation in faculty development programs.
- Perform other duties as required by the contract, program work, and institutional needs.
- Ability to plan course instruction based on approved syllabus and meet content objectives.
- Ability to teach Art courses such as Art History I & II and Art Appreciation.
- Use a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles.
- Experience with instructional technologies, including computers, internet resources, and other media.
- Degree specialization and recent experience teaching or preparing a range of college‑level Art History courses.
- Evidence of outstanding teaching ability.
- Ability to develop curriculum (transfer‑level and electives) for an Art major program.
- Develop student learning outcomes and assessment methods, ensuring continuous improvement.
- Engage and support students from diverse cultural, religious, academic, socio‑economic, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Enthusiasm for the role and purpose of the community college.
- Commitment to the teaching profession and continuous reflection on best practice.
- Use teaching methods that foster active learning and lifelong learning.
- Use instructional methods emphasizing group cooperation, collaboration, cultural sensitivity, and interdisciplinary approaches.
- Maintain currency in the discipline and related technology appropriate to instruction.
- Organize and explain materials for students with varied abilities, preparation levels, and cultural experience.
- Demonstrate effectiveness as a colleague.
- Initiative and commitment to collaborate with faculty and staff for instructional improvement.
- Knowledge of teaching strategies and methods that enhance student success.
- Knowledge of learning communities and the learning‑college model.
- Master's degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Art History.
- Doctor of Philosophy in Art History.
- Two (2) years of successful teaching experience in Art History I Survey, Art History II Survey, and/or Art Appreciation.
- Four (4) years of teaching experience beyond the Teaching Assistant level.
