Job SummaryTeach Art History and Art Appreciation courses face‑to‑face or online. Typical load per regular semester is 5 lecture classes. The College seeks a full‑time, tenure‑track faculty member in Art History who shares the college’s commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.
Engage in the Art Program’s student advising, fundraising, recruiting, curriculum development, committee work, gallery operations, and community outreach. Demonstrate skill, knowledge and abilities in the teaching discipline. Teach assigned courses across various times and locations. Develop and use a variety of teaching methods and materials to assist students with differing backgrounds. Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues and the community.
Job Responsibilities- Teach 5 lecture art courses per semester (face‑to‑face & online, including Art History I, Art History II, and Art Appreciation).
- Develop curricula, assessment plans, and learning outcomes for Art History and Art Appreciation courses.
- Provide students with a written syllabus that follows the Course Syllabus Guidelines.
- Maintain a classroom environment that promotes teaching and learning.
- Hold scheduled office hours (at least one hour daily) and be available for student conferences.
- Advise declared majors and assist with student art association activities.
- Assist in marketing, recruiting, and community outreach efforts.
- Lead the development, assessment, and analysis of student learning outcomes.
- Develop course materials and technology to enhance offerings.
- Participate in program and institutional evaluation and accreditation (NASAD self‑study, Art Program Review).
- Collaborate in department planning, guided pathways, and curriculum integration.
- Participate in self‑evaluation processes and develop professional development plans.
- Serve on departmental, division, and college committees; attend meetings.
- Participate in institutional activities (convocation, graduation, registration).
- Assist in maintaining NASAD accreditation standards and college accreditation standards.
- Perform other duties as required by contract, program work, and general institutional needs.
- Participate in a year‑long new faculty development program and obtain college online training certification.
- Plan course instruction based on approved syllabus/outline to meet objectives.
- Teach Art History I & II and Art Appreciation courses.
- Utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods for diverse learning styles.
- Experience with instructional technologies (computers, internet resources, media).
- Hold a degree specialization and/or recent experience preparing college‑level Art History courses.
- Evidence of outstanding teaching ability.
- Develop curriculum for transfer and elective courses in Art major program.
- Develop student learning outcomes and assessment methods.
- Support students from diverse cultural, religious, academic, socioeconomic, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Commitment to the purpose of the community college.
- Engage students actively, promote critical thinking, and encourage lifelong learning.
- Use group cooperation, collaboration, cultural sensitivity and interdisciplinary approaches.
- Maintain currency in discipline and technology appropriate to instruction.
- Organize and explain materials for students with differing abilities and backgrounds.
- Effectiveness as a colleague – collaborate with faculty and staff with collegiality and innovation.
- Know and commit to teaching strategies that enhance student success.
- Knowledge of learning college concepts and learning communities.
- Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the discipline.
