Position: CARPENTRY INSTRUCTOR POOL

Position Summary

The Carpentry Instructor is responsible for providing classroom instruction, distance learning instruction, and practical shop experience to prepare students for employment in a variety of jobs in the field of Carpentry. The instructor will teach courses related to the core skills used by carpenters in residential and commercial settings. Topics include safety, hand/power tool use, site preparation, measurement and layout, footings and foundation, construction framing, and other related topics.

Responsibilities
  • Teach courses related to core carpentry skills including safety, hand/power tool use, site preparation, measurement and layout, footings, foundation, construction framing, and other related topics.
  • Provide classroom instruction, distance learning instruction, and practical shop experience to prepare students for employment.
  • Develop and use various teaching methods and materials to accommodate students with differing educational and experiential backgrounds.
  • Maintain appropriate professional relationships with students, colleagues, and community.
  • Evaluate students to measure progress toward achievement of course outcomes within college grade and grade appeals procedures.
  • Provide written and accessible course syllabus following guidelines to facilitate a clear understanding of content, goals, requirements, expectations, evaluation methods and schedule.
  • Maintain a classroom environment that promotes teaching and learning and be available for and encourage conferences with students.
  • Assist with marketing programs and recruiting students.
  • Review, evaluate, and revise assessments of program and institutional student learning outcomes and practices to ensure compliance with professional standards and state‑mandated guidelines.
  • Accept special assignments occasionally.
  • Participate in department, divisional, and college meetings and activities required to maintain accreditation and the college planning process.
  • Participate in business and community activities that promote the mission of the college.
  • Teach NCCER Carpentry program courses.
  • Develop NCCER Carpentry curriculum and course content.
  • Assist in maintaining NCCER program compliance activities.
  • Procure, maintain, inspect, and operate equipment and supplies necessary for program instruction.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Associate’s Degree in the discipline and at least four (4) years industry‑related work experience, OR
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent and at least eight (8) years industry‑related work experience.
Required Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to plan course instruction based upon approved syllabus or outline to ensure course objectives are met.
  • Ability to utilize a variety of teaching styles and methods to accommodate diverse learning styles.
  • Successful experience utilizing instructional technologies (computers, internet resources, and other media).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to teach and communicate with students of varied multicultural backgrounds.
  • Successful teaching or vocational training experience.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to teaching strategies and methods that enhance student success.
  • Knowledge of a learning college and/or learning communities.
  • Experience teaching college‑level online courses and/or documented success in a college online learning management system (e.g., Blackboard, Canvas).
