MUSIC TEACHER

STATUS: Full-time

Position Purpose

Under the general supervision of the School Principal, facilitate student success and growth in academic and interpersonal skills by implementing Archdiocesan-approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress, addressing specific educational needs, creating a flexible, safe and optimal learning environment, and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations, and goals.

The position is recommended for any musician who can demonstrate strong classroom management, pedagogically sound vocal instruction, a minimum of keyboard proficiency, and a passion for inspiring young vocalists to find their voice.

Essential Functions for all Catholic School Teachers
  • Participate in school/church activities required by the employee's position.
  • Participate in ongoing faith formation opportunities offered by parish and school.
  • Develop and administer school elementary curriculum consistent with Archdiocesan goals and objectives.
  • Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning.
  • Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and translate them into learning experiences to best utilize available instructional time.
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and modify instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including students with special needs; conduct individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Instruct students in the principles of responsible citizenship and other subject matters specified in applicable laws, as well as administrative regulations and procedures of the school system.
  • Continuously acquire professional knowledge and stay updated on current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops, or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
  • Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievements, and attendance as required.
  • Encourage parental involvement in students' education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
  • Ensure that student conduct conforms with the school's standards and Archdiocesan policies, establishing and maintaining standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Coordinate with other elementary professional staff members, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
  • Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids and other supplies and equipment, maintaining inventory records.
  • Supervise students in activities that take place outside the classroom during the school day, including activities involving transportation.
  • Administer standardized tests in accordance with Archdiocesan testing programs.

Additional Duties
