Position: GRANT-FUNDED CAREER COUNSELOR POOL

Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary This position reports to the Director of Career Development and is housed with the Career Development Department on the Windward, and Oso Creek campuses (as applicable). The part-time Career Counselor provides leadership for career development both on campus and virtually. This includes providing comprehensive services and information resources that enable students to take active responsibility for their career decision, career planning and job search;

equipping students for making career plans by facilitating awareness of their work related strengths, skills, interests, and values and understanding the world of work; preparing students for finding suitable employment by enhancing their job search skills and capacity to express the relevance of strengths to employers; and fostering relationships with the employer community to provide students with opportunities to develop professional skills, integrate academic learning from work, and find jobs.

Planning activities and workshops for career success will be implemented. Career counselor will assist the Director with Career & College Center, career assistants, employer relations, social media, and fairs.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Student Development/Student Affairs, Education, or related field.
  • One (1) year experience working in a secondary or post secondary education environment.
  • Experience working with at‑risk student populations.
  • Knowledge and ability to use current educational practices in career advising.
  • Knowledge of academic requirements, programs, deadlines, transfer requirements, and occupational and labor market information.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty and staff.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, and familiar with virtual platforms.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (writing, listening, speaking) with excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively as a member of a team and in a professional manner.
  • Ability to organize activities and coordinate groups of people.
  • Ability to relate to students from different backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assigned tasks.
  • Ability to problem-solve, make decisions, and manage conflict.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Counseling is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Counseling, Student Development/Student Affairs, or Education is preferred.
  • Experience working traditional, non-traditional, various student populations.
Job Duties
  • Understand and explore information regarding career fields, employment opportunities, and specific employers for full-time, part-time, internship, and work-study opportunities.
  • Develop and direct programs and services designed to equip students and alumni with the necessary job search skills and employment preparation strategies.
  • Develop and assist in marketing strategies and resources to identify and bring recruiters and potential employers to campus.
  • Effectively represent the Career Office to various on- and off-campus groups, including the faculty, media, student population, employers, and/or the general public.
  • Supports in the development and maintenance of databases that support and deliver career services to the college, students, alumni, and employers.
  • Collaborate with faculty, administrators, and campus departments to identify, define, and meet student career planning and placement needs, goals, and objectives.
  • Provide individual and group career advising and career direction services to students using career planning workshops and activities.
  • Develop career services and career‑advising approaches for changing student populations, including minority, non-traditional, and returning students.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
