Education/Certification

Required:

High school graduate or equivalent and 48 college hours or completion of TOPS Training upon hire

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

Knowledge of mathematics, science, English/language arts, and/or social studies concepts appropriate to the age and grade level student with which the paraprofessional will work. Ability to manage materials and equipment effectively. Communicates effectively with students, teachers, and other personnel. Works cooperatively with others. Works with the teachers in promoting a quality program.

Technology

Experience:

Level I Basic e-mail, Basic word processing, Basic data entry, Basic data archiving, Basic computer operations, Basic use of job-related student and/or financial management system

Experience Preferred:
Teaching or tutoring experience desirable.

Personal

Qualifications:

Relates positively to others. Encourages and supports student academic and personal success. Works cooperatively and tactfully with other staff members, school personnel, and the general public. Displays reliability, productivity, and adaptability in the organization.

Function:
The Instructional Title 1/SCE Para II works directly with identified students as a priority, and generally assists the teacher(s) in the planning and conducting of instructional activities and in the developing and managing of materials and equipment for use with students at risk of dropping out of school due to unsatisfactory academic performance. The paraprofessional also conducts individual and/or small group tutorials with at-risk students, under the immediate supervision of certified core subject-area teachers, academic dean, or instructional teacher advisor.

Campus Principal

Responsibilities:
Plans with the classroom teacher(s) to provide ongoing instructional activities for a flexible instructional program that meets the needs of identified at-risk students. Administers diagnostic and evaluative instruments to individual students and small groups of identified at-risk students to determine student skill needs and progress. Prepares, organizes, and manages materials and equipment according to daily lesson plans to meet the instructional needs of identified at-risk students.

Reinforces skills previously presented by the classroom teacher(s) with individual or small groups of identified at-risk students. Assists with the integration of technology into the curriculum. Assists in delivery of instructional software programs. Maintains student's records of identified at-risk students. Performs other duties in support of success for identified at-risk students as assigned.

Salary: ISUP/502: $13.88 minimum/hour (individual salary calculation is based on applicable experience)
