Experience
Required:
Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching/intervention in special education. Ability to problem solve, reason, and analyze, and to display imagination, patience, creativity, and sound judgment.
Function The Special Education Program Coach is a member of the Office of Special Education and is primarily responsible for curriculum and support services at the elementary and secondary levels. Duties include providing support to campuses in the implementation of appropriate instruction to support written goals and objectives of students with disabilities. The Special Education Program Coach reports to Coordinator/Director for Special Education.
Responsibilities:
Instructional Management Models effective teaching strategies through professional staff development for District personnel. Provides support services and resources for District special education teachers. Provides training to teachers, administrators, and paraprofessionals on special education content and instructional techniques, develops new approaches in teaching, and establishes model classrooms. Assists teachers in professional growth of teachers through effective professional development training and timely dissemination of information.
Models and provides well-structured instruction for all grade levels. Provides time and opportunities for teachers to exchange ideas, work on projects, and think and grow as a team through professional development by using e-mail and individual conferences. Develops instruction and assessment models using State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (ST AAR), differentiated instructional strategies, and alternative assessment opportunities to meet the needs of all students.
Assists teachers in assessing the curriculum needs of all students. Conducts follow-up sessions with teachers to discuss/clarify strategies presented through professional staff development and classroom demonstrations. Analyzes and recommends textbooks and related materials for use in the classroom. Assists teachers and staff developers in the implementation and use of programs and materials provided by the District. Keeps abreast of innovative programs and instructional strategies in order to provide appropriate technical assistance as needed.
Analyzes data, evaluates research studies, provides technical support, and makes recommendations for student achievement. Organization Climate Promotes positive communication by providing information and assistance to school personnel, parent(s)/guardian(s), and community regarding the District's goals. Student Management Provides strategies for classroom management of special education tools, technology, and materials. Schedules individual/grade-level meetings for training on particular topics as requested. Conducts campus-based strategies on the most current research in the areas of curriculum, behavior intervention, and student achievement.
Professional Growth and Development Utilizes information provided through formal and informal assessment data to improve job performance. Participates in professional development programs for improved job performance, and applies knowledge to professional responsibilities. Annually develops personal Professional Performance Goals that include clear goals, objectives, and evidence of achievement. Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Coordinator/Director for Special Education.
