Function:
The Specialist leads the district-wide Health/Physical Education programs in Prekindergarten through Grade 12. Duties include providing support to campuses and planning and initiating appropriate activities that meet the needs of students and families, ensure integrity of the district’s program and vision, and ensure district-wide program consistency. The Specialist provides assistance and expertise to teachers that align with state and federal requirements, comply with district procedures and protocols and support district goals and objectives.

Responsibilities:

Instructional Management:

  • Assist with selection and development of professional learning and curriculum resources to support the integration of health education content and CATCH (Coordinated Approach to Child Health)
  • Provide assistance and ongoing support for campus wellness teams, to include technical support, professional development, and support grant related activities
  • Attend campus and/or district coordinated school health/school wellness events as appropriate
  • Develop and maintain campus coordinated school health/school wellness calendar for the district
  • Support campus implementation of coordinated school health program and other school wellness initiatives through site visits and trainings designed to meet individual campus needs
  • Participate in professional organizations to keep abreast of emerging issues and trends in related programs, best practices and services
  • Disseminate current professional ideas, information, and updates to the appropriate district personnel in the effort to develop new curriculum, policies, and programs
  • Interact with parents, agencies, and community to enhance the understanding of district initiatives and priorities and to elicit support and assistance
  • Maintain accurate records and develop reports as required
  • Serves as district liaison for community and non-profit organizations that promote health and wellbeing
  • Serves as an instructional leader in the coordination of effective Districtwide instructional programs, particularly related to assigned subject area(s)
