Purpose

The Athletic Academic Coordinator is responsible for working with stakeholders regarding academic advisement, student success activities, and overseeing academic progress per University, Southland Conference, and National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules. The position also provides academic counsel to student‑athletes regarding schedule development, registration assistance, major exploration, learning issues, NCAA continuing eligibility, progress toward degree, graduation plans, and mentoring for at‑risk students.

Overseeing academic, athletic, and attendance reports, and working with coaching staffs to develop semester success plans.

Responsibilities
  • Advising (75%) – Advises current and prospective student‑athletes concerning their academic requirements; provides mentoring; oversees Sports as assigned by the Director of Athletic Academic Services.
  • Coordination (10%) – Coordinates with departments on student‑success efforts; works with the Office of Student Success to implement tutoring, learning‑skills labs, etc.; develops strategies to assist at‑risk student‑athletes; collaborates with university stakeholders on academic advisement activities; oversees academic, athletic, and attendance reports; develops and maintains athletic academic‑success initiatives with institutional programs.
  • Admissions (10%) – Assists with admission process and documentation for in‑state, out‑of‑state, and international students; collaborates with the compliance office to determine initial and continuing academic eligibility for student‑athletes.
  • Recruitment/Other (5%) – Coordinates, attends, and presents at on‑campus recruiting events, speaking with prospective student‑athletes, parents, and/or guardians about academic programs; performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field.
  • Three (3) years of experience in DI or DII Academic Setting or related experience. Additional education may substitute for the minimum requirements.
  • Master’s degree in applicable field and one (1) year of experience in DI or DII Academic Setting or related experience.
  • Intermediate skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work outside normal business hours and travel as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Sport Administration, Management, Psychology, or closely related field.
  • Knowledge/experience in APR, graduation rates and NCAA academic eligibility requirements.
  • Experience with ARMS, Navigate, Banner, and NCAA compliance assistance.
  • Experience in college athletics at the NCAA DI level, working with student athletes, and life‑skills programming.
Salary

$3,657.34 Monthly ($43,888.08 Annual, Approximately)

Note:

Employment may be impacted by the Presidential proclamation issued on September
19,2025 and the moratorium issued by Texas Governor Abbott on January
27,2026.
