Assistant Pastor for Family Ministries Church Description
City Church is an independent, Reformed-leaning community emphasizing the Gospel of the Kingdom of God and Christ’s Covenant of Grace. The church is anchored in the historic Christian doctrine of the Trinity and embraces the person and work of the Holy Spirit. We are demonstrably committed to the authority of Scripture, to worship that is musically alive and liturgically rich, and to the local church’s call to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
City Church is a small but robust community with an average Sunday attendance of 150.
We are actively seeking someone with a growing and evident love for the Lord Jesus Christ and His Word, who is doctrinally sound, who has the special calling and gifting to shepherd the next generation.
Key Responsibilities- Leadership & Vision:
Develop and implement a cohesive strategy for Family Ministries that aligns with City Church’s theology and priorities. - Youth Ministry Management:
Provide pastoral care and discipleship for youth; organize regular youth gatherings, retreats, and service opportunities; incorporate, equip, and mentor volunteer youth leaders as the ministry matures. - Children’s Ministry Oversight:
Provide vision and direction to an established children’s ministry that benefits from the support of committed parents; expand the use of appropriate Sunday School curriculum; ensure a safe and secure environment for our children (background checks, policies); and plan seasonal programs.
- Volunteer Development:
Build a robust volunteer pipeline, provide ongoing training, performance feedback, and recognition. - Home Groups Coordination:
Oversee the growth, health, and multiplication of Home Groups; maintain communications and scheduling. - Family Equipping:
Lead family discipleship initiatives such as parenting classes, workshops, and provide resources to help parents disciple children at home. - Worship & Teaching:
Frequent teaching, periodic preaching and children’s sermons. - Administration & Reporting:
Participate in staff meetings and church leadership gatherings, manage Family Ministries budget, maintain records (attendance, volunteer clearances), submit regular reports to the Senior Pastor and Elders.
- Ability and desire to teach Scripture clearly and winsomely.
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in ministry, theology, Bible, Christian education, or related field preferred; OR, significant experience and gifting.
- An appreciation for Reformed theology generally and commitment to our church’s doctrinal standards.
- Minimum two years’ experience in church ministry – including some work in family, children, or youth ministries.
- Experience with age‑appropriate discipleship programming.
- Good organizational skills.
- Reports to:
Senior Pastor John Hardie. - Supervises:
Children’s ministry volunteers, youth leaders (as applicable), Home Group leaders (as applicable).
- Status:
Full-time or part-time, depending upon the candidate. - Typical schedule:
Sunday leadership and teaching, weekly staff meetings, an evening with home group visit or youth meeting; occasional weekends for retreats and events. - Compensation:
Competitive and commensurate with experience.
