Position: TUTOR - STUDENT SUCCESS CENTER POOL

This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time, temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments or Divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill temporary assignments as the need arises. You will be contacted by the hiring manager should the department/division be interested in scheduling an interview. AN APPLICATION IS VALID FOR ONE YEAR, AT WHICH TIME APPLICANTS WISHING TO REMAIN IN THE POOL MUST REAPPLY AND UPDATE THEIR INFORMATION.

Job Description Summary

The Tutor facilitates learning as a guide to assist the student to become a successful, independent learner. The purpose of tutoring is to increase and enhance mastery of concepts or applications of a specific course of study. Tutors integrate effective study and learning strategies to maximize the tutee’s potential for academic progress.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum cumulative and semester GPA of 3.0 with an A or B average in course(s) tutored.
  • Completion of at least 12 college credit hours.
Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
  • Effective interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to relate to students with various academic levels and needs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior tutoring experience.

Job Duties
  • Assist students in targeted subject areas via individual and group tutoring and/or online tutoring.
  • Host workshops on selected topics including on-line.
  • Model and encourage collaborative study strategies.
  • Create and manage resources.
  • Contribute to a friendly and productive learning environment.
  • Meet regularly with supervisor including on-line.
  • Host TSI Bootcamps/Workshops
  • Tutor students in TSI subject matter in both small and large group formats.
