This is a grant funded position. Continuation of this grant funded position is contingent upon the continued availability of grant funds. There is no right or expectancy of continued employment beyond the terms of the employment agreement.
This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill Part-Time assignments on an as-needed basis. Departments or Divisions will refer to the POOL of applications on file to fill temporary assignments as the need arises. You will be contacted by the hiring manager should the department/division be interested in scheduling an interview.

Position Summary Information

Job Description Summary

Responsible for working with individual adult learners face to face and in virtual learning environments. Provide the teaching of ESL in compliance with Texas Adult Education and Literacy Content Standards while integrating civics, and jobs skills into lesson delivery. Helps adult learners meet their educational, personal, and professional goals while building strong community in the classroom.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in Education or related field.

One (1) year teaching experience in reading, writing, mathematics, and English language acquisition.

Required Job Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Bilingual or equivalent in one language other than English. Must be computer proficient. Must be compassionate with strong interpersonal skills including communication. Ability to facilitate group learning and establish and maintain constructive relationships in the classroom.

Preferred Qualifications

Two years direct teaching experience in ESL . Teaching Certificate.

Job Duties

  • Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English with concentration on civics to meet state and federal grant requirements.
  • Develop and deliver lesson plans and syllabi for in-person learning and virtual instruction that utilizes a broad range of appropriate teaching techniques and strategies.
  • Providing a caring and supportive learning environment that encourages adult learners’ responsibility, and incorporates appropriate instructional strategies.
  • Adapts curriculum to provide individual, small group, and/or remedial level instruction as to meet the needs of individual adult learners and subgroups of adult learners.
  • Maintain and complete required AEL professional development
