Job Summary
In this role, you will work under the direct responsibility and authority of a System Control Center Reliability Coordinator Principal or Sr., assisting with limited instruction in overseeing the safe, efficient, and reliable operation and coordination of the AEP transmission system across various RTO regions. You will assist with the coordination and arrangement of congestion relief on actual or contingent overloaded transmission facilities, support the arrangement and approval of switching operations and removal of equipment for maintenance of transmission lines and stations, maintain acceptable AEP transmission system voltage levels, and develop proper notifications regarding outages and system disturbances to management, DOE, NERC, and FERC as required.
This intermediate trainee position does not involve independent real‑time actions; all actions that could impact the real‑time system are performed under the direct supervision of a SCC Reliability Coordinator Principal or Sr.
- Assist the SCC Reliability Coordinator Principal or Sr. in coordinating the arrangement and approval of switching operations for the removal or restoration of equipment.
- Initiate, coordinate, and arrange among RTO, AEP Generation Dispatch, and AEP Transmission Dispatch Centers for congestion relief on actual or contingent overloaded AEP transmission facilities, including arranging for off‑cost generation dispatch to relieve local constraints.
- Maintain clear and detailed records of all pertinent activities involving the Transmission Systems.
- Initiate notifications to designated management personnel of major interruptions, abnormal conditions, and other system emergency conditions.
- Monitor and test communications facilities and report malfunctions to proper personnel for corrective action.
- Perform these tasks under the direction and authority of a SCC Reliability Coordinator Principal or Sr.; no independent actions are allowed.
- Two (2) year technical degree in Electrical/Electronic engineering or equivalent, or high school education with two (2) years of experience operating a civil or military power system.
- Must pass the SOPD II Test.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
- Must obtain NERC certification at the Transmission Operator (TOP) or Reliability Coordinator (RC) level.
- Must satisfactorily complete all required training to advance to the next higher classification within the line of progression or vacate the current classification.
- Ability to follow and communicate instructions clearly and concisely.
- Must work a twelve‑hour uninterrupted rotating shift schedule consisting of nights, weekends and holidays, with willingness to accept on‑call responsibilities and call‑outs.
- Ability to work under pressure during periods of critical system conditions and to analyze conditions and make proper decisions quickly while dealing with diverse situations simultaneously.
- Ability to effectively work in a team environment and professionally deal with co‑workers, customers and management personnel.
- Requires thorough knowledge and use of safety procedures.
Compensation Grade: SP20-006. Compensation Range: $74,551.00 - $.
Physical DemandSedentary work with occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 10 pounds.
