Overview
TxDOT’s Corpus Christi District is seeking a Transportation Engineer I, II, III or IV to join the Central Design Office in Corpus Christi, TX. The Central Design Office develops Plans, Specifications, and Estimates (PS&E) for a wide range of projects, including preventive maintenance, rehabilitation work, bridge replacements, and major freeway expansions. The team ensures all designs meet current standards and collaborates closely with project stakeholders.

Salary Grade/Range:
Transportation Engineer I (B24) $75,487- $106,634/year;
Transportation Engineer II (B25) $80,704- $114,099/year;
Transportation Engineer III (B26) $89,755- $129,430/year;
Transportation Engineer IV (B27) $98,730- $142,374/year. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level position based on the applicant s work experience, education, skill level, and all other appropriate factors and based on business needs.
- Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and/or maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
- Performs and coordinates the review and processing of Plans, Specifications & Estimates (PS&E) submission, special specifications or special provisions.
- Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
- Reviews and revises schematics, PS&E, project designs, shop drawings and field changes for traffic control devices, signals, signs, markings, detours, traffic control plans, electrical distribution and roadway lighting and traffic management systems.
- Reviews shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests.
- Writes/reviews proposals and estimates for letting.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
- Transportation Engineer II:
Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts. Updates, reviews, monitors, and/or reviews requests for changes to plans, manuals and/or standard sheets. - Transportation Engineer III:
Performs advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts. - Transportation Engineer IV:
Monitors contract performance, evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant s compliance with the terms of the contract, and/or prepares and delivers a written evaluation of the consultant s performance. Performs highly advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
Bachelor s Degree in engineering or related science (bachelor s or higher degree accepted by TX PELS).
Experience(Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications- Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
