Overview
The Utilities Sr. Plant Operator is responsible for overseeing treatment and operations at any of 6 wastewater treatment plants operated by the City. Responsibilities include maintaining adequate pressure, chlorine residual, virus and bacteria removal or inactivation, chemical dosing, tank cycling, and hazardous chemical handling. This position is also responsible for maintenance and operation of the treatment plants. This position exists to reclaim and return water to the state and to reuse water customers that meets or exceeds all state and federal drinking water standards as outlined by the Environmental Protection Agency and Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
Responsibilities- Operate a wastewater treatment facility utilizing advanced knowledge of conventional treatment processes in accordance with state and federal regulations
- Perform advanced level process control measures to include adjustments to chemical dosing, flows throughout the treatment process, distribution pressure and storage tank levels in accordance with water demand
- Serve as team lead on planned repairs and re-routing flows or startup/shutdown of equipment and processes for plant projects
- Manage shift operations employees to include at minimum two utility technicians
- Oversee collection, preservation, storage, and analysis of water samples throughout the entire treatment process
- Monitor and adjust chemical dosing and flow throughout the treatment plant
- Project changes in system demand based on trends and advanced knowledge of wastewater processes and predict treatment adjustments accordingly
- Identify process changes to optimize treatment while maintaining efficient cost of treatment
- Ability to understand and operate Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems that monitor and control plant processes
- Identify and resolve operating issues
- Operate a variety of equipment/machinery including valves, pumps, motors, disinfection equipment, vehicles, etc
- Conduct preventative maintenance and issue corrective maintenance work orders through the City’s computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
- Maintain detailed records and logs of major process changes and issues occurring during the shift
- Assist in internal and external comprehensive compliance investigations
- Perform data entry functions in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS)
- Maintain records for regulatory compliance
- Directly handle or supervise handling of hazardous chemicals
- Monitor chemical usage and maintain adequate chemical inventory
- Perform repairs on chemical feed pumps and chemical injection systems to include chlorine feed and delivery equipment
- Proficient in computer systems including Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
- Ensure facilities are secure
- Clean and maintain plant grounds when necessary
- May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Non - Exempt – Full-Time
Non rotating 40-hour work week;
Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays is a schedule requirement

Minimum Qualifications- High School/ GED
- Seven (7) years of experience
- Required
- Class B Wastewater Operator License
- A valid driver's license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver's license within 90 days of hire
