The Senior Electrical Operator is responsible for the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of power distribution systems. With extensive field experience, this role leads switching operations, supports maintenance and engineering teams, and ensures operational readiness across routine and emergency conditions. The position requires strong technical expertise, leadership in safety practices, and the ability to bridge field execution with engineering intent.
Our Team
At Corpus Christi Refinery, ‘E Ops’ are recognized as subject matter experts regarding the power distribution system. Our E ops team operate and support 5 Main substations and ~ 75+ unit substations. We are a team of self‑motivated professionals who collaborate effectively to minimize risk to ourselves, others, and the refinery by prioritizing safe practices and executing tasks correctly the first time.
‘E Ops’ is frequently relied upon to lead response efforts during major unplanned power distribution events, guiding the safe and efficient restoration of power to affected areas.
- Lead by example in promoting a safety‑first culture during all electrical operations.
- Conduct thorough job walkdowns with safety leads/execution teams to ensure hazard identification and mitigation.
- Responsible for developing switching procedures and reviewing with Electrical reliability group.
- Execute complex power distribution switching to achieve safe system configurations for operations and maintenance.
- Ensure all switching activities are performed with precision, accountability, and adherence to procedures.
- Develop, review, and authorize high‑quality permits for electrical work on power distribution equipment.
- Perform AVO (Audio, Visual & Olfactory) rounds on substations and associated equipment.
- Maintain accurate documentation of system conditions and operational activities.
- Contribute to the creation, review, and continuous improvement of switching procedures.
- Provide experienced input during job planning and walkdowns to enhance safety and efficiency.
- Participate in on‑call rotations and respond to emergent electrical system issues.
- Provide electrical operational support during turnarounds and major events.
- Partner with Engineering and Maintenance teams to gather field data and support troubleshooting efforts.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high‑performance team environment.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance safety, reliability, and efficiency.
- 5 years of experience in electrical operations, power distribution, or a related field.
- Demonstrated leadership in safety and operational decision‑making.
- Ability to work independently and respond effectively under pressure.
- Strong knowledge of high‑ and medium‑voltage systems, switching procedures, and substation operations.
- Proven experience in permit writing, job planning, and field execution.
