Substation Team Lead Engineer

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Substation Team Lead Engineer with hands‑on experience in substation design, construction, and maintenance, ideally with a background at Georgia Power or a similar utility. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise, lead project execution, and support cross‑functional teams to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of electric substations. This position is a contract to hire.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate substation engineering projects from conception through completion, including design, planning, and construction support.
  • Apply knowledge of Georgia Power substation standards, design practices, and operational protocols to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with protection, control, civil, and transmission teams to develop solutions that meet project requirements.
  • Review and approve engineering drawings, specifications, and contractor submittals.
  • Provide technical guidance to field teams during substation construction, commissioning, and maintenance activities.
  • Conduct site inspections and support troubleshooting of substation equipment and systems.
  • Ensure adherence to safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
  • Mentor junior engineers and serve as a subject matter expert within the substation team.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in substation engineering, with at least 2 years at Georgia Power or supporting Georgia Power.
  • Strong knowledge of substation design, relay protection, SCADA systems, and utility construction practices.
  • Proficient in engineering software and tools used for substation design and analysis.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and project management skills.
  • Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
