Job Summary

The Corpus Christi Area Office seeks a Transportation Engineer (Levels I‑IV) who thrives in a fast‑paced environment to manage construction projects, ensuring contract work is completed on time and within budget. The candidate will lead construction inspectors and engineering assistants to achieve project milestones in the Corpus Christi Area Office.

Salary and Pay

Transportation Engineer I (B24): $75,487 – $106,634 Transportation Engineer II (B25): $80,704 – $114,099 Transportation Engineer III (B26): $89,755 – $129,430 Transportation Engineer IV (B27): $98,730 – $142,374

Location

Corpus Christi District Headquarters, 1701 S Padre Island Drive, Corpus Christi, 78416, Texas. Travel:
Yes, 10% of the time. Shift: Day (M‑F 8 am‑5 pm). Onsite, with flexibility.

Job Responsibilities
  • Assists in overseeing construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers.
  • Assists in overseeing contracts, issuing work orders, monitoring construction schedules and contractor payments, and tracking job progress on construction projects.
  • Assists with design, computer operations, and plan preparation.
  • Coordinates and monitors assigned projects / programs / plans.
  • Drives/travels to project/work locations for on‑site engineering reviews, analyses, tests, and technical support.
  • Monitors contractors’ compliance with plans and specifications.
  • Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities by Level Transportation Engineer II
  • Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.
  • Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts.
  • Updates, reviews, monitors, and reviews requests for changes to plans, manual and standard sheets.
Transportation Engineer III
  • Analyzes schedule trends, determines risks, and recommends corrective options for complex projects.
  • Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling, and closing complex transportation projects.
  • Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes.
  • Oversees contracts, issues work orders, and monitors construction schedules and contractor payments for complex projects.
Transportation Engineer IV
  • Conducts final inspections on completed construction projects.
  • Monitors contract performance, evaluates deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors consultant compliance, and prepares written evaluations.
  • Performs highly advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates, and contracts.
  • Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.
Minimum Qualifications Education

Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science. A bachelor’s or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience
  • Transportation Engineer I: 4 years of engineering, transportation engineering, or related experience.
  • Transportation Engineer II: 5 years.
  • Transportation Engineer III: 6 years.
  • Transportation Engineer IV: 7 years.

Experience can be satisfied by full‑time or prorated part‑time equivalent. Related graduate‑level education may be substituted for experience on a year‑per‑year basis.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Valid driver’s license; driving a state vehicle required.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (or eligible to obtain within 6 months of hire).

Licensed professional engineers in another U.S. state, but not in Texas, must meet Texas licensing requirements, obtain a Texas license within six months of hire, and sign an agreement to that effect.
