Come Join an Inclusive TeamThe Control Systems Technologist is responsible for keeping the Corpus Christi Operations site’s process control systems operational. They also provide leadership and discipline expertise to the less experienced engineering support staff, and serve as the system administrator, providing daily support to engineering, design, maintenance and production groups. The role ensures that implemented projects follow sound engineering practices, plant standards, specifications and the plant process control systems philosophy.
ADay in the Life
- Daily process control systems support to the plant, to keep the plant process control systems operational.
- Responsible for the industrial process control systems & OT Networks and the site authority for the OES-019 Information and Communication Standard, which includes TDC 3000, Experion, Aspen Manufacturing Systems (IP21, DMC3, and RTO), SIL/Triconex systems, Wonderware, Analyzer Networks, Instrumentation Networks, SCADA systems, PLCs, GE Governor, Building Management Systems, Fiber Optics Backbone, networking infrastructure, and all OT security and administration.
- Provide technical support on work orders as they relate to the process control systems.
- Collaborate with maintenance and production on reliability issues, creating quality solutions for problems.
- Support maintenance in existing and new system implementations, assisting with location, troubleshooting, and establishing maintenance procedures for new or existing equipment.
- Serve as a plant expert on process control system engineering issues (risk engineering, system integrity, applicability to specifications, philosophies, and standards). Act as the site subject‑matter expert on corporation‑wide technical networks.
- Mentor in the process control system engineering discipline, increasing knowledge of all systems.
- Stay current with new technologies that enhance plant operation, reliability, safety and reduce environmental impact. Identify opportunities and develop new ideas, features and services to improve ROI, safety and environmental outcomes.
- Remain aware of life‑cycle expectancies and vendor support periods for all control systems. Communicate benefits of new technology and upgrades to management before obsolescence.
- Train, educate and transfer knowledge on new technologies, software improvements and related control system products.
- Work with maintenance, project engineers, purchasing and key suppliers on quality, maintenance, service and cost issues of existing and new process control system software and equipment upgrades.
- Develop working relationships with other department personnel to seek out opportunities that add value to each job.
- Lead discussions with group members to establish and maintain process control system standards and specifications for reliable and consistent plant design, construction and operations.
- Provide technical support for the technical group, emphasizing process control system philosophies, standards, safe design and installation of projects.
- Coordinate with IT BISO Systems to provide appropriate access to and monitoring of Plant OT systems while maintaining high security standards.
- Design reliability into OT systems, servers, applications, networks and maintain critical recovery backups and design/installation/build documentation.
- Maintain critical support, monitoring and security systems that sustain real‑time site OT KPI, including Trellix ePO, WMI, Service Now, Clarity and Splunk.
- Review project process control system design scope, provide guidance to plant design and drafting personnel, and review designs before construction.
- Assist Plant Engineers in determining feasibility, costs, schedule, scope of work and constraints from conceptual phase through to final design, construction and acceptance testing.
