The Corpus Christi Area Office is seeking a Transportation Engineer who enjoys a fast-pace environment to manage various construction projects in the area, ensuring contract work is completed on time and within budget allocations. The optimal candidate will be tasked with leading a team of construction inspectors and engineering assistants in the execution of project milestones and be an integral component of the success of the Corpus Christi Area Office.
Annual Salary Ranges:
- Transportation Engineer I (B24) - $75,487 - $106,634
- Transportation Engineer II (B25) - $80,704 - $114,099
- Transportation Engineer III (B26) - $89,755 - $129,430
- Transportation Engineer IV (B27) - $98,730 - $142,374
This position is for (1) Transportation Engineer I, II, III, or IV. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Position
Description:
- Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance.
- Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines.
- Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities.
- Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.
Essential Duties:
- Transportation Engineer I:
- Assists in overseeing construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers.
- Assists in overseeing contracts, issuing work orders and monitoring construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects.
- Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation.
- Coordinates and monitors assigned projects/programs/plans.
- Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support.
- Monitors contractors' compliance with plans and specifications.
- Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Transportation Engineer II (In addition to the above):
- Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters.
- Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
- Updates, reviews, monitors, and reviews requests for changes to plans, manual and standard sheets.
- Transportation Engineer III (In addition to the above):
- Analyzes schedule trends, determines risks and recommends options to management for corrective action for complex projects.
- Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for complex transportation projects.
- Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes.
- Oversees contracts, issues work orders and monitors construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects.
