Own the metallurgy behind OCTG steel pipe manufacturing—from HFW and heat treatment to quality, yield, and process improvement.
The Opportunity:
Seeking a Metallurgical / Process Engineer to provide hands-on technical leadership across its tubular manufacturing operation. This engineer will own metallurgical and mechanical testing while driving process performance across HFW pipe manufacturing, induction heat treatment, sizing, finishing, and product quality.
This is a hands-on manufacturing role for an engineer who enjoys solving problems on the mill floor, optimizing processes, and turning metallurgical data into measurable improvements.
What You'll Own
- Lead metallurgical and mechanical laboratory activities, including tensile, hardness, Charpy, flattening, hydrostatic, metallographic,
- Provide metallurgical oversight of HFW pipe manufacturing and induction heat treatment.
- Establish and optimize mill, welding, heat-treatment, sizing, and finishing process parameters.
- Ensure materials and finished products meet API 5CT, API 5L, ASTM A370, and customer requirements.
- Conduct metallographic evaluations, failure analysis, defect investigation, and root-cause analysis.
- Apply SPC and process capability to reduce variation and improve process performance.
- Drive improvements in yield, scrap, rework, and first-pass conformance.
- Support raw-material quality, supplier improvement, new-grade/product qualification, and first-article runs.
- Troubleshoot process and product issues directly with operations on the manufacturing floor.
- Develop technical procedures, work instructions, and support API, ISO, and customer audits.
- Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Science, or related engineering discipline.
- 5–10 years of metallurgical, process, quality, or manufacturing engineering experience.
- Experience with HFW/ERW pipe, OCTG, tubular, steel pipe, or related steel manufacturing strongly preferred.
- Working knowledge of API 5CT and API 5L.
- Hands-on experience with metallography, mechanical testing, and heat treatment.
- Experience with SPC, process capability, failure analysis, and root-cause problem solving.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
- Comfortable working hands-on with manufacturing operations and troubleshooting process issues on the floor.
- Advanced Excel skills;
AutoCAD and MATLAB are a plus. - Willingness to work occasional overtime and travel as needed.
- Ability to regularly lift up to 60 lbs.
You'll have real technical ownership of metallurgy and manufacturing processes—not just a laboratory or quality function. Your work will directly influence product quality, heat treatment, process capability, yield, and continuous improvement across an OCTG steel pipe operation.
