SUMMARY
Responsible for maintaining accurate and complete financial records, books, and accounts related to the operations and financial activities of the Veterans Cemetery. Reviews, analyzes, and manages monthly revenue reports for assigned departments (cost centers), ensuring compliance with budgetary policies, financial procedures, and reporting requirements. Other anticipated tasks include reconciling and analysis of employee benefits and support other financial areas as assigned.
The employee may be required to be on duty before, during, and after natural disasters and emergencies, as directed and considered as essential personnel for the County Auditor’s Office.

Works closely with other county employees, supervisors, department heads and county officials and outside agencies.
- Responsible for maintaining the financial records for the Veterans Cemetery.
- Prepares financial reports and monthly customer invoices to the Veterans Land Board (VLB) and ensures the budgeted fiscal year allocation is billed and collected.
- Work with Veterans Service management to develop and monitor annual budget and throughout the fiscal year.
- Identifies and analyzes budget related problems/errors, takes corrective measures to correct and creates Journal Entries JE as needed.
- Reviews monthly fuel reading from Veteran’s Cemetery, records fuel usage through journal entries, and balances the fuel inventory with the general ledger.
- Responsible for having knowledge of the revenue and the laws under which payments are collected.
- Maintains the monthly revenue reports and remittance from departments (cost centers) that collect revenues within Nueces County.
- Reviews and manages bank reconciliations and reviews the monthly proof of cash for each cost center.
- Responsible for ensuring that the Supervisor and Internal Audit are immediately informed of unusual variances, losses, shortages of funds and any repetitive errors.
- Manage monthly revenue accounting activities, ensuring accurate revenue recognition and reporting.
- Prepares journal entries, maintains revenue schedules, and reconciles advance remittances to the general ledger in compliance with County policies and accounting standards.
- Generate and analyze billing reports to track revenue, outstanding balances, and ensure billing practices comply with County policies.
- Assist with the preparation of estimated actuals for revenue projections for the budget book.
- May perform special research projects and reports as directed by their supervisor.
- Responsible for employee benefit reconciliations and related ledger records. This includes health plan and other ancillary benefit billings to payroll reports. Reporting any amounts due from employees and any irregularities to management.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree (B.
A.) from an accredited four-year college or university with a major in accounting, finance, or business administration, plus two (2) years of accounting and/or budgeting experience, preferably in a government setting. The County may consider any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training in the County’s sole judgement.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret program user guides, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, flow charts, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Ability to learn and adapt to new technology. Must have excellent communication skills with customers and County employees, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
MathematicalSkills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
