Position: RN, Registered Nurse - L&D ($10K Sign-on + $5K Relo)

Offering a $10K Sign-on + $5K Relocation bonus for this position with 2 years of prior experience.

The CHRISTUS Spohn South Labor and Delivery, Antepartum and Obstetrical Emergency Departments are staffed by one cross‑trained group of associates:
Registered Nurses, OB Surgical Technicians, Certified Nurse Aides, Unit Secretaries, 24‑hour CRNA coverage for maternity anesthesia, and a house OB Hospitalist for 24‑hour coverage. We average about 220 deliveries per month and provide care for non‑stress tests, amniocentesis, induction of labor, postpartum hemorrhage, and emergency situations within 30 minutes. The department is a happy environment for patients and families, providing an exceptional patient experience.

Summary

As a competent Nurse in a similar clinical setting, you practice independently and demonstrate awareness of all relevant aspects of a situation. You provide routine and complex care, set long‑range goals, and manage contingencies of clinical nursing. You make appropriate assignments and delegate to other providers to manage the clinical situation.

Responsibilities

  • Consistent with the ANA Scope and Standards of Practice, provide nursing care using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, evaluation) for assigned patients.
  • Address increasingly complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in accordance with the level of practice.
  • Use the appropriate protocol to administer medications and treatments; monitor for side‑effects and effectiveness of the treatment prescribed.
  • Document patient history, symptoms, medication, and care given.
  • Assess learning needs and provide education to patients, family members, and caregivers; identify issues and resources.
Job Requirements Education/Skills
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, preferred
Experience
  • 1 year of experience in the related nursing specialty preferred
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
  • BLS required
  • RN License in state of employment or compact
Position Requirements Education/Skills
  • All newly hired experienced RNs must attend New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
  • New hires are precepted by a designated trained staff member and initial onboarding requirements are validated through successful completion of the designated organizational entry competency validation and a Perinatal Services‑specific competency validation.
  • Completion of all annual competency verification requirements.
Experience
  • Perinatal RN Residency, or recent experience in a Perinatal Setting is preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
  • Current certification required from one of the following: AWHONN Intermediate FHM, AWHONN Intermediate FHM Instructor, AWHONN Advanced FHM Instructor, AWHONN Instructor Trainer, or NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C‑EFM)
  • Current NRP certification required
  • Current ACLS certification required

In accordance with the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification and Registration Verification Policy, all associates must obtain required certifications for their positions within the designated time frame.

Credential Grace Periods

Any candidate/associate with at least one year of acute care clinical experience in a similar service line within the past three years is considered an Experienced Associate.

Any candidate/associate who does not have at least one year of full‑time acute care clinical experience in the same service line within the past three years is considered an Experienced Associate New to the Specialty.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS):
    No grace period. AHA or Red Cross accepted at time of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS):
    Experienced Associates within 30 days of hire;
    New Graduates & Experienced Associates New to the Specialty within 90 days of hire.
  • Pediatric Life Support (PALS):
    Experienced Associates within 30 days of hire;
    New Graduates & Experienced Associates New to the Specialty within 90 days of hire.
