Overview

Network Engineers at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi are responsible for the design, provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of network systems throughout their lifecycle.

Responsibilities
  • Administer Campus Enterprise Network – managing LAN, WAN, and Data Center environments.
  • Network Security Support – implement and maintain firewalls, VPNs, and other security devices.
  • Monitoring & Troubleshooting – continuously monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues.
  • Vendor Collaboration & Updates – engage vendors to address vulnerabilities and apply security patches.
  • Team Contribution – provide technical support and collaborate on projects.
  • Network Design Implementation – assist in design and implementation of network solutions for complex projects.
  • Plan Review & Analysis – review design plans and provide feedback.
  • Collaboration with Senior Staff – work closely with Manager and senior engineers.
  • Project Coordination – collaborate with Project Management Team during construction/upgrade projects.
  • System Communication & Routing – design, engineer, and manage routing protocols.
  • Technology Research & Innovation – conduct research on emerging technologies.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration – facilitate input from clients, contractors, vendors.
  • Project Planning Support – assist in developing work plans and schedules.
  • Reporting & Documentation – prepare status updates, reports for management.
  • Availability – work nights, weekends, holidays as required.
  • Training & Professional Development – pursue ongoing training.
  • Other duties – perform tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Three years of related experience.
  • Alternative:
    Associate’s degree & five years experience; or High School Diploma & seven years experience.
  • Excellent written communication, analytical, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to work in a collaborative team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional-level certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CCDA, CWNA, ITIL.
  • Hands‑on experience with Cisco technologies (routers, switches, wireless, firewalls).
  • Experience with Azure cloud infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in network diagram tools (word processing, spreadsheets).
  • Knowledge of IT trends, security regulations, ITIL framework.
  • Experience with Solar Winds Orion, Infoblox DDI.
  • Experience in higher education sector.
  • Strategic thinking, project and operations management principles.
