PURPOSE
The Systems Administrator II Housing Technology, under general direction, performs complex and specialized systems administration functions supporting Islander Housing technology operations. This position is responsible for maintaining and supporting critical housing systems, including access control, housing management software, network connectivity, security systems, and residential technology infrastructure. The role requires advanced technical troubleshooting, systems analysis, research, debugging, and problem-solving to support a safe and reliable residential environment.
Functional Area1:
Technology Management
Percent Effort: 60%
- Administers and supports Housing technology systems, including virtual and physical servers supporting residential operations.
- Manages and supports housing-related systems such as Star Rez, CS Gold door access, housing networks, wireless infrastructure, cameras, and other residential technology platforms.
- Monitors and maintains door access systems to ensure operational continuity during outages, transitions, and emergency situations.
- Analyzes system logs and identifies potential issues impacting Housing operations, resident access, or network reliability.
- Troubleshoots and repairs complex hardware, software, and configuration issues related to residential technology systems.
- Troubleshoots routine networking issues within residence halls and student housing facilities.
- Provides Tier II support and assists with Tier III escalations for Housing IT-related incidents.
- Research, recommends, specifies, and plans hardware and software purchases that support Housing operational and strategic goals.
- Provides technical oversight for system testing, application support, integration, performance analysis, and tuning of Housing technology systems.
- Maintains accurate documentation regarding Housing IT systems, configurations, procedures, and support processes.
- Assists with implementation of new Housing technology deployments and system integration testing.
- Performs annual reviews and assessments of Housing technology security, backup systems, and disaster recovery processes.
2:
Infrastructure Support
Percent Effort: 30%
- Designs, implements, installs, and configures Housing IT infrastructure, including network file servers and related hardware.
- Assists with routine audits of Housing systems, software, and security controls.
- Assists with development and implementation of emergency response and continuity plans for Housing technology systems during hurricanes, power outages, and other crises.
- Evaluates emerging technologies and recommends solutions that improve residential student experience and operational efficiency.

Other Duties
Percent Effort: 10%
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Collaborates with Residence Life, Housing Operations, Facilities, University IT, and third-party vendors to support residential technology needs.
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Three (3) years of related systems administration experience.
- Additional experience/education may be used as a substitute for the minimum education/experience requirement:
- High School Diploma/GED and seven (7) years of related systems administration experience.
- Associate's degree and five (5) years of related systems administration experience.
- Master's Degree and one (1) year of related systems administration experience.
- Knowledge of systems administration, networking, server management, and enterprise applications.
- Knowledge of troubleshooting methodologies, client support, requirements analysis, project management methodologies, and IT service delivery frameworks such as ITIL.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex technical problems in high-demand operational environments.
- Knowledge of system security, backups, and disaster recovery planning.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively with departmental and campus stakeholders.
- Ability to provide high-level customer service while supporting critical student-facing systems.
- Understanding of emergency preparedness and operational continuity within a residential campus environment.
- Ability to maintain the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment system or water treatment system.
- Experience supporting access control systems, residential networks, or enterprise applications preferred.
- Familiarity with housing management systems, access control systems, and residential network environments preferred.
Salary: $68,009.90 - $75,288/annually, approximately.
$5,667.49 - $6,274/monthly.
