Senior RF Communications Technician
The Senior Communications Technician is responsible for providing regional field support for critical telecommunications infrastructure and communications systems. This role supports the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and upgrade of voice, data, microwave, satellite, SCADA, and network technologies while serving as a key liaison between field operations and IT. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, hands-on communications professional with strong technical expertise and a proven history of stability and performance.
Key Responsibilities- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot telecommunications systems, including voice, data, SCADA, microwave, satellite, and video systems.
- Perform preventive maintenance, fault isolation, diagnostics, and repair of communications infrastructure.
- Support implementation of communications-related projects and system upgrades.
- Coordinate and oversee contractors performing telecommunications installations and maintenance.
- Provide technical support and first-level training to field operations personnel.
- Serve as the primary field liaison between Operations and IT.
- Promote communications standards and provide feedback to engineering teams.
- Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation and support emergency response activities.
- High School Diploma/GED required;
Associate degree in Electronics, Telecommunications, or related field preferred. - Minimum 7 years of telecommunications or communications technician experience.
- Demonstrated career stability and strong work ethic.
- Experience with microwave communications systems (Aviat, Eclipse, or similar).
- Experience with VSAT and satellite communications systems.
- Knowledge of SCADA radio systems, RF troubleshooting, licensed/unlicensed radio links, and 4RF or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with RF antenna systems, towers, guide wires, and telecommunications site infrastructure.
- Experience with fiber optics, including testing and troubleshooting.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals, routers, switches, IP networking, and Cisco equipment.
- Experience with VoIP and telephone systems.
- Proficiency using telecommunications test equipment, including spectrum analyzers, sweep gear, and other field diagnostic tools.
- Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and safely in outdoor industrial environments.
- Ability to travel up to 40% within the service area.
- FCC License.
- CCNA or equivalent networking certification.
- Experience with video surveillance/camera systems and video server integration.
