Nurse Educator
General Purpose of Job
To provide and coordinate education support for service line staff. The Clinical Educator will provide service line specific professional development under the supervision of the Director of Professional Development & Practice with input from the specific service line Director. The role ensures effective and efficient implementation of key educational processes at the unit level and assists in the implementation of designated centralized components in conjunction with the Professional Development Specialist/Coordinator.
Key processes include: leading organizational change, orientation, annual competence assessment, preceptor development, required ongoing training, patient education, student affiliations, and the enculturation of evidence-based practice.
- Assess, plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate, and document age/population‑appropriate patient care for identified unit populations.
- Design, implement, and evaluate a cost‑effective unit‑based orientation process focused on knowledge, skills, and relationships.
- Orient and develop preceptors.
- Coordinate the annual assessment and validation of priority high‑risk skills.
- Coordinate and conduct required training to close performance gaps in knowledge and skills.
- Implement a unit‑based plan for advancing competence of staff on all shifts, resulting in improved performance.
- Coordinate the unit‑based clinical experience for students.
- Facilitate the unit‑based process improvement process.
- Provide administrative support for unit‑based operations.
Current RN license in the State of Texas. A minimum Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) from a four‑year college or university in nursing is required; MSN or equivalent is preferred. Broad knowledge of nursing functions and specific patient‑care activities on assigned unit(s) and knowledge of key educational processes. Five (5) years of clinical nursing experience, with two years as a preceptor preferred.
Certifications and Licenses- Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Provider (if applicable to unit)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider (if applicable to unit)
- BLS and/or ALS Instructor status as appropriate within one year of employment
- Specialty certification in the clinical area and/or professional development required upon reaching eligibility
