GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB: The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) Manager supervises, organizes and directs the work of the NNPs both at DC Health and the units supported by the Neonatal Regionalization Support Program (NRSP). Under general supervision, the NNP Manager coordinates staff to ensure effective NNP services are provided and quality standards are met. Staffing consists of NNPs scheduled and as needed.
The NNP Manager develops and maintains an environment that supports the NNPs within the Driscoll Health System and its affiliates. A multidisciplinary team approach to care is utilized, and the function includes supporting the professional nurse, medical and ancillary staff.
- Maintain the utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
- Provide oversight and support for the neonatal units supported by Driscoll Children’s Health System.
- Provide oversight and support for the Neonatal Regionalization Support Program (NRSP).
- Adhere to hospital policies and procedures.
- Actively support and promote a professional practice model that encourages APN participation in the development of clinical standards that are collaborative, collegial and use current trends and data in professional practice (clinical and administrative).
- Openly support and consistently communicate the mission of the neonatal unit and their organizations. Serve as a change agent to facilitate communication and transition that supports the organization’s mission.
- Assure coordination/participation of the APNs on department and organization-wide councils/committees.
- Manage, supervise and coordinate delivery of patient care for the assigned patient care area on a 24-hour basis; ensure compliance with clinical patient care standards and established policies and procedures.
- Assist the Director of Administration with maintaining clinical competencies for assigned clinical areas and provide care as needed.
- Assess, coach and evaluate APN level of practice; develop programs that foster continued clinical development to positively impact patient care and career satisfaction of APNs.
- Assist the Director of Administration with maintaining unit records, reports and statistics for administrative purposes.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, procedures, quality control (POCT), PI, safety, environment and infection control. Communicate requirements to APNs and hold them accountable to established requirements. Coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures designed to improve operational efficiency. Assist with coordination of QC/PI activities with APNs.
- Assist the Director of Administration in overseeing personnel actions including hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, terminations and other related activity.
- Coordinate the activities of APNs with other hospital personnel; be accountable for the effective and efficient operation of the unit and staff, including ensuring orders, treatments, plans of care, and clinical pathways are carried out in a manner supportive of patient care and recovery. Ensure documentation of patient care is complete and accurate in accordance with hospital and unit policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with the Director of Administration to determine fiscal requirements of the unit and assist with budgetary recommendations. Monitor resource use and determine appropriateness of resource consumption. Develop action plans with the Director to ensure budget and resource efficiency and satisfaction with patient care delivery.
- Promote and monitor regulatory agency standards and customer service expectations for all aspects of nursing practice.
- Promote family-centered care by functioning as a liaison with the family, guest relations, and appropriate personnel.
- Function as a liaison with service physicians and ancillary services on a day-to-day basis.
- Registration and current licensure in the State of Texas as appropriate.
- MSN required.
- Certification in area of specialty preferred.
- Licensed in the State of Texas as an RNNP; ACLS/BLS/PALS certified.
- Certification in specialty preferred.
