Required:
Previous experience in school nursing or the health care of children. A minimum of two years' experience in nursing practice, preferably in community health field. Valid Texas driver's license. Personal Qualifications

Function:
The professional Registered Nurse (R.N.) in the school setting implements the District's student health services program on assigned campus(es) under the direction of the Administrative Officer for Student Health Services and the assigned principal. The R.N. promotes the optimum health of students and the student's abilities to achieve individualized educational goals. The R.N. facilitates and monitors the student's responses to their educational, medical, and family environments and provides health education and health services when appropriate.
The provision of the services by the R.N. contributes directly to the student's education and to the successful outcome of the educational process.

Responsibilities:
Serves as health advocate for student. Possesses full range of knowledge and skills to identify and assess student needs. Develops a health care plan for students with medical needs. Assumes responsibility for implementation or delegation of the student health care plan for acute, chronic, and emergency health problems, including appropriate referral, follow-up, and evaluation of health care plan. Provides relevant counseling and guidance to assist students and parents in assuming responsibility for health maintenance.
Maintains communicable disease control by monitoring and enforcing required immunizations through detection and management of suspected and diagnosed infectious diseases. Provides health education and referrals as appropriate to students, parents, and staff. Gathers and maintains immunization information on all students, and keeps immunization records current as required by state immunization law. Notifies parents of required immunization doses due and provides follow-up in a timely manner.
Maintains accurate records, and prepares reports as required by administrative policy, Texas Education Agency, state law, and Administrative Officer for Student Health Services. Maintains accurate, updated records of health information on all students, and makes provisions for timely and accurate management of incoming and outgoing records and reports. Initiates referrals and follow-up relevant to unmet health needs of students. Coordinates health service activities with instructional program.
Works with parents and medical health care community to promote optimum delivery of health care services to students. Anticipates supply and equipment needs appropriate to maintaining a continuous, functional, building-level program. Participates in faculty activities. As a team leader, allocates appropriate job functions, and assumes responsibility for supervision of licensed vocational nurse team members. Maintains confidentiality, and adheres to Board policy.
Exhibits knowledge of and conforms to the Nursing Practice Act, including the Standard of Nursing Practice (Rule 217.11) and the Delegation Rules (Chapters 224 and 225) as written by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners (BNE). Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the appropriate chain of command. Provides emergency care, first aid for students and employees, and medication administration for students.
Conducts health screening procedures, such as height/weight; vision, hearing, spinal, and Acanthosis Nigricans.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
