Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) Manager – responsibilities and qualifications
Essential Functions and Behavioral Expectations- Maintains utmost level of confidentiality at all times.
- Provides oversight and support for the neonatal units supported by Driscoll Children’s Health System.
- Provides oversight and support for the Neonatal Regionalization Support Program.
- Adheres to hospital policies and procedures.
- Actively supports and promotes a professional practice model that encourages APN participation in the development of clinical standards that is collaborative, collegial, and utilizes current trends and data in professional practice (clinical and administrative).
- Consistently communicates the mission of the neonatal unit and associated organizations to the APNs, responding positively to change while supporting colleagues.
- Serves as a change agent to facilitate communication and transition that supports the mission of the organization.
- Assures coordination/participation of the APNs on department and organization‑wide councils and committees.
- Manages, supervises and coordinates delivery of patient care for assigned patient care area on a 24‑hour basis.
- Ensures compliance with clinical patient care standards and established policies and procedures.
- Assists Director Administration with maintaining clinical competencies for assigned clinical areas and provides care as needed.
- Assesses, coaches and evaluates APN level of practice.
- Develops programs that foster continued clinical development to positively impact patient care and career satisfaction of APNs.
- Assists Director Administration with maintaining required unit records, reports and statistics for administrative purposes.
- Ensures compliance with established hospital policies, procedures, objectives, quality control (POCT), PI, safety, environment and infection control.
- Communicates requirements to APNs and holds APNs accountable to established requirements.
- Coordinates the development, implementation and evaluation of policies and procedures designed to improve operational efficiency.
- Assists with coordination of QC/PI activities with APNs.
- Assists Director Administration in overseeing various personnel actions including, but not limited to, hiring, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, terminations and other related activities.
- Coordinates the activities of APNs with other hospital personnel; accountable for the effective and efficient operation of the unit and staff, ensuring that orders, treatments, plans of care, and clinical pathways are carried out in a manner supportive of patient care and recovery.
- Ensures documentation of patient care is complete and accurate in accordance with hospital and unit policies and procedures.
- Collaborates with the Director administrative team to determine fiscal requirements of the unit and assists with the preparation of budgetary recommendations.
- Monitors the level of resources utilized in service delivery and determines the appropriateness of resource consumption within the service.
- Develops action plans with the Director to ensure budget and resource efficiency and satisfaction with patient care delivery.
- Promotes and monitors regulatory agency standards and customer service expectations for the practice of all aspects of nursing.
- Promotes family‑centered care by functioning as a liaison with families, guest relations, and appropriate personnel.
- Functions as a liaison with all service physicians and ancillary services on a day‑to‑day basis.
- Registration and current licensure in the State of Texas as an RN.
- MSN required; certification in area of specialty preferred.
- NRP, PALS, BLS certification (or equivalent; certification in specialty preferred).
