NOTE: This is a temporary position (20–40 hours per week) from March through September.
NOTE: You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and/or shift work during this period.
SUMMARYThese positions will be with the Natural Resources Specialists at Nueces County Coastal Parks. The position will include field work conducted in difficult and varied environmental conditions, including high temperatures, cold temperatures, wind, and humidity in a sandy and rough beach terrain.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESinclude the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Major dutiesPatrols beaches on utility-transport vehicles and 4-wheel drive vehicles to detect nesting turtles, live and dead stranded sea turtles in varied weather conditions such as strong winds, rain, and unstable beach terrain.
Documents and transports nesting turtles, nests, stranded live and dead sea turtles.
Performs daily vehicle safety inspections which include checking fluids, check/repair tires, inspect safety gear, wash/refuel, and secure vehicles and communication radios after daily use.
Independently identify and monitor wildlife in the field following established protocols and provide directions to other staff and volunteers.
Specialized
Experience:
at least one season of specialized experience directly related to the work of this position, which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Ex. Performing work with wildlife, research activity, etc.
Successful completion of or current enrollment in a full four-year course leading to a bachelor's degree with a focus on biology, herpetology, chemistry, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, agriculture, environmental science.
Combination of education and experience as described above.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSValid Texas motor vehicle operator's license. Any employee who drives a vehicle on official business must have a driving record which meets standards set by the County and the County's insurance carrier.
