Position: ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST with Security Clearance
Duties
* You will inspect regulated waste containers at the pickup site for structural integrity, accumulation dates, proper identification markings, and transportability.
* You will inspect contents of regulated waste containers to ensure compliance with regulations, installation management plans, and permits.
* You will transfer wastes from one container to another or lab pack as required due to deteriorated containers or incompatible wastes.
* You will prepare and submit all required paperwork, review and track all waste shipping paperwork including 1348s, manifests, and Land Disposal Restriction Forms to ensure timely receipt and regulated installs.
* You will perform weekly regulated inspections of the HWSF and any associated storage sites and maintain files of internal inspections complying with regulations. Requirements Conditions of employment

* Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

* Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
* Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
* You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid forklift driver's license.
* You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
* You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
* This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
* You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
* Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs. Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Demonstrated understanding of hazardous material properties, chemical compatibility, and waste stream characterization protocols.
2) Solid working knowledge of and state/local environmental regulations regarding the storage, handling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
3) Inspecting, documenting, labeling, and packing hazardous waste for transport.
4) Apply knowledge by provide information of hazardous materials properties to the Installation Environmental Program Director (IEPD).
5) Operating varied automotive, materials handling equipment including a forklift operator license. Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management web site:

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Physical Demands:
The work requires physical exertion such as long periods of standing on hard surfaces; climbing stairs, and ladders; walking over rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities. Incumbent uses hand-trucks and other types of material handling equipment to move, load, and unload large drums and various size containers from trucks and containment areas.
